Centurion Centre, Ottawa.
What a year it has been after we joined the National Capital Heavy Construction Association in 2014. I was honoured to Co-Chair the 2015 NCHCA AGM with Dave McClure of Toromont Cat and Robert Ziade of Hertz Rentals.
We implemented many new formats put forward by our NCHCA Board for the 2015 event. The vision was to have a more social event including a stand-up buffet and beer sampling bar hosted by Covered Bridge Brewery.
The evenings first order of business was historical, with a motion put forward allowing associate members to be appointed as officers of the Corporation. Minutes later, 2014 NCHCA out-going President, Ivan Levac, introduce Perry Crozier as the first associate President of the NCHCA.
Crozier of IPEX Inc. addressed the membership, “This is a major development in our almost 40 year history as an organization. It is the recognition of the contribution that all members make to our association regardless of whether they are contractor or associate members. This is an honour that I take seriously, and pledge to return your confidence in me by expanding the reach and relevance of the NCHCA during my term.”
Keynote speaker, The Honourable Pierre Poilievre, spoke along with Ottawa Mayor, Jim Watson. The Mayor gave his continued support of infrastructure and phase 2 of the OLRT Project. OSWCA Executive Director, Giovanni Cautillo, presented a cheque to the NCHCA and Deborah Mohr-Caldwell of Goldie Mohr Ltd. was honoured for her years of service to the NCHCA Board.
Looking forward, the CTAA Conference will be held here in November and several NCHCA Members will host nearly 400 guests to our city from all over Canada and several northern US states. The 37th Annual Pothole Open will take place May 25th, this event always sells-out quick, so register early.
Have a safe and prosperous 2015 construction season and we hope to see you in the trenches!
