OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA

After a week of action at the IIHF Women’s World Championship, Ottawa and the world has seen just how far women’s hockey has come in such a short time. Nobody will question the gap after Team Canada and Team USA, but there is no doubt the other countries are coming, playing, and making great strides to compete at a higher level than ever before.

Those 13-0 losses and 8-0 defeats are not looked down upon, they are used as learning experiences. Those losses may look bad on paper but the fact is there has been some epic play and spectacular saves by the women that guard the nets for their country. They don’t quit, they are as athletic as any NHL net minder and face up to 50 to 60 quality shots on any given night. With the Sochi Olympics of 2014 just around the corner we expect the level of play of women’s hockey will be raised once again and look forward to watching the girls in the cage leading their teams to new heights.
